Alta Cienega Motel has been in its current location since 1950. It is best known for being the resident of Doors musician Jim Morrison from 1968 to 1970. The motel is mentioned in JIm's book No One Here Gets Out Alive and was also filmed for the Oliver Stone movie The Doors. The motel scene, was deleted, but can be found in dvd's that include the deleted scenes. In the scene, Meg Ryan stands outside room 23 calling for Jim. Perhaps Jim didn't answer because in real-life he stayed in room 32.
The hotel has been owned by the current owners since 1976. It was leased out in 2005 to management who many guests have had complaints about. The owners, in January 2011, have chosen not to renew the contract to that management team. The motel is now currently in the process of major renovation. For previous guests, when you revisit here, you will notice a newer cleaner facility. The towels will be nicer and the managers too. The housekeeper, Petra is still here. She has been doing a great job for almost 30 years.
